Miqdad

ADHRB, BIRD and BCHR´s July Champion for Justice is Sheikh Mohammed Habib al-Muqdad (al-Miqdad, al-Moqdad, Al-Mekdad, Alsafaf). Sheikh al-Muqdad, a Swedish-Bahraini citizen, respected religious leader, social activist and the president of Al-Zahra Charity Institution for orphans, is a prominent member of the Bahrain 13.

Sheikh al-Muqdad was detained following his public condemnation of the Bahraini regime in 2010 and then later again in 2011. During his detention, he was forced to gargle his own urine, swallow after guards had spat in his mouth and subjected to torture by electric shocks all over his body.
